We asked our Huggies Mums to tell us about their baby showers. The result was some great advice and handy tips, as well as some funny stories.

Mine is being organised for me. We are having a wishing well because we already have a lot of things so that avoids double-ups and getting things that we won’t use.

Ask the other ladies to help you out with organising it. You’ll go insane if you try and do it on your own! Don’t do an all-day affair – an afternoon is fine. Keep the momentum going, play a couple of games, have a bite to eat, play another game, socialising time, opening gifts, etc.

Reveal the gender of the baby by having a cake that is blue or pink on the inside – so when you cut it, everyone gets to see and celebrate the gender together! Lots of fun.

I had a Body Shop party with hand pampering. I was 36 weeks and very swollen so trying lots of different hand creams and soaking my hands was bliss! After that, we played lots of “baby” themed games and I had baby accessories as prizes. I also had a large jar full of jelly babies and whoever guessed the number in there (or the closest guess) won the jar. It was a lot of fun!!

I have to say that I don’t get the whole Baby Shower thing. You are having a baby yes, but why should everyone else ‘buy’ you all the stuff you need. If people want to come and see you after you’ve had it, then you’ll get a gift. Until then, buy it yourself. I have had 3 kids and never asked anyone for anything. We are just thankful for the beautiful gifts we got once they arrived.

I’m organising my own, it’s in 8 weeks and I’ll be 38 weeks. I have blown out the budget that my partner gave me but I’m having so much fun organising it. I went to The Baby Shower Shop and got heaps of games and decorations. Plus I’ve made some myself. My theme is everything pink including the food as I’m having a girl. I’m so looking forward to my baby shower.

We just had a BBQ for both our sets of friends and then the boys came back to our place for drinks. We asked for no gifts though.

I organised my own twin baby shower and we had the best day. Knowing I was having twin girls, we had pink and white helium balloons in the middle of the room, lots of laughs, a couple of games and some finger food. The day was just the best. The number of gifts we got was overwhelming.

Never had one but had a lovely afternoon tea when baby was about 4 weeks old. So everyone got to meet him when I was feeling up to it.

I had my baby shower at my sisters place and my nephew had to be there. He was really happy about getting a cousin as he was the only child and was extra excited about my baby shower. For one simple fact that he thought we were actually showering the “baby”. But I loved having him there, just brought so much fun and excitement to the day.

I kept it simple with a tea party. My invites were with natural colours like greens and browns. We had tea bags as invitations and had a few games. Served nice and simple food to our guests.

My mum and sister-in-law threw one for me. I was so sick with pre-eclampsia that I didn’t fully get to appreciate it. We played great games like the chocolates in the nappy and trying to put a cloth nappy on a teddy bear with gardening gloves. It was fun, but I wouldn’t suggest doing it late in pregnancy as I did.

I had one with girls and guys as I thought it is just as much about the male as the female. I would recommend a baby registry – I didn’t have one and got 6x play mats! We played a few games and had a BBQ and it was wonderful.

Oh I had one with so much fun!!! I played this game where I made play doh (ahead of time) and everyone gets a little chunk and has to make a baby. Whoever makes the best wins!! Or people get into sets of two and spoon-feeds one another baby food or apple sauce, which ever pair finishes first wins something.

Had one with my 1st. I organised the whole thing. It was a lot of work but we loved it. Had a girls night out with my 2nd and loved that too. Now my 3rd is due, my friends and my mother-in-law are helping, we are having a ‘High Tea’. I’m so excited!! My biggest tip is whether it’s thrown for you or you set it up, sit back at some point at the event and really enjoy it.

At mine we had a fantastic time, my cousin threw me one and she made sure that there were heaps of games, prizes and food. We all laughed at each other trying their hardest at the games and everyone participated. My suggestion would be, have everyone pretty close to the action and together as this helps with conversation and everyone joining in the games. I went to one where it was held in a large area and because people were spread out, they missed out on a lot because it was hard to hear and get all together to start a game.

I had a “last leisurely lunch” instead. Invited a small group of my close friends and went out for a nice lunch instead. I didn’t want any games, so I kept it simple. Was lovely and non-stressful.

Keep it relaxed, don’t spend a lot of money. Afternoon tea pot luck always works really well. It’s nice to get everyone together and just be happy that a baby is on the way. Don’t make it too stressful.

Just have a small group of your friends and family! And don’t go too overboard. Try to keep it simple. Mine was very overwhelming as there were far too many people!!
